Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Where did you get this idea?
A1: It came from my cat. He was scratching my couch, so I decided to make an irresistable substitute, which triples as a play area plus something artistic for my living room.

Q2: What are they made of?
A2: Everything! Most of the pillars incorporate papier mβchι, cotton fabric, fiberglass tape, plaster, PVC piping, and styrofoam. They're covered with sisal rope. The beds are lined with plush fabric.

Q3: Does you cat really use it?
A3: Oh yes! All of the cat pillars I have built so far are well loved by their feline owners. They are scratched, sniffed, slept in, and played on daily.

Q4: How much do they cost?
A4: The price varies according to size and complexity, but generally run between $100-$500.

Q5: What if my cat is de-clawed?
A5: The needs of your cat are taken into consideration. A spiral staircase model, for example, will aid a cat with no claws to still reach that high perch. Even de-clawed cats have the need to exercise their "scratchers."

Q6: What if my cat is really fat and lazy?
A6: No problem. I make them tough enough for toddlers. The perch and bed sizes are designed around your cat. I can't help you if your cat is lazy, but I can give her a place to sleep.

Q7: Why do you often use sisal rope for the outside?
A7: Studies show cats like sisal, a LOT, and it's a very strong and durable material that will stand up to the sharpest claws. A very few cats have an allergy to sisal; if this happens, we can rebuild the pillar with another material such as carpet.

Q8: Can I get one for my iguana/guinea pig/bird/ferret/dog...?
A8: Of course! The pillar designs are adaptable to all situations. They can be low to the ground for dogs, have small tunnels for ferrets, etc. They can even be made waterproof for easy cleaning. Of course, these won't have the sisal rope, but you knew that.

Q9: Can I get one (as a gift) for a friend?
A9: Sure! Check out the "Buy A Pillar" page, and inquire about a Pillar Gift Certificate.
